Using the tool of hypnosis the therapist guides the client into a relaxed state enabling direct access to their subconscious mind. This is where our instinctive behaviour patterns and natural reactions are formed. Using positive suggestion and imagery the therapist is able to focus on the behaviours that the client wishes to change.

A Useful Metaphor
Life can be seen as a dance, but it can feel more like a battle if we are continually bumping into people and objects, hurting ourselves and others, becoming ever tenser, rigid, lacking in confidence, anxious, even frustrated and angry. When we are rigid the slightest thing can nock us off balance, with painful repercussions. Maybe people accept our clumsiness for a while, but tread on anyone’s toes often enough and they will either call “time out” or hold us at a distance. It’s no fun lurching through life in this uncomfortable way. We might even stop trying and just retreat to a dark corner in a fit of depression or try to forget our embarrassment and isolation in a stupor induced by alcohol or some other addiction.

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is the bringing together of the conscious and subconscious minds in a trance state. It is a safe, powerful technique creating a deeply relaxed state of the body, mind and emotions. It is also a perfectly natural state that we are often in during our everyday lives whilst reading a book, watching television, or doing repeated tasks.
The key to breaking free from this painful experience is to first relax, because we cannot move gracefully, competently and with confidence if we are tense, rigid.
